・ The features of this engine were the fine distribution of air-fuel mixture inherent to a horizontally-opposed engine, and lean combustion, which was enabled by preheating the engine with warm water and an improved carburetor. ・It controlled the maximum combustion temperature by reviewing the compression ratio and valve overlap, and precisely adjusting ignition timing. ・It achieved well balanced control of CO, HC, and NOx by controlling the combustion gas temperature from inside the combustion chamber to the exhaust path using a intake port liner and lead valve type secondary air induction system. ・In Oct. 1975, this SEEC-T system was installed in the Subaru Leone, enabling it to meet the emission gas regulations of 1976. |

| Features | : | ・ It had a unique exhaust gas purifying system that did not require an after treatment system such as a catalyst or devices such as air pumps. ・The lead valve type secondary air induction system used exhaust pulses to introduce secondary air into the exhaust tube. The SEEC system had a simple, effective structure, and set the precedent for practical use of such systems, which later became widely used. | |
