・ The principle of constant-velocity universal joints is the positioning of ball grooves between the input and output shafts so that one is always on the reference plane on which the shafts are symmetrical (i.e., multiple balls that transmit rotation are located on the surface that bisects the angle between the shafts). ・A constant velocity universal joint utilizing this principle was developed by GKN in the U.K., but was not put into practical use. ・Then NTN (then Toyo Bearing Mfg. Co., Ltd.) and Fuji Heavy Industries, Ltd. jointly developed the world's first constant-velocity universal joints with an extendable structure, which was put into practical use after repeated prototyping and testing. |

| Structure, type, measure, means, etc. | : | A structure that allows sliding using balls, by extending the inner race and cutting grooves in the inner surface. | |
| Function, effect, etc. | : | It had a function to absorb expansion and transmit constant velocity rotation even if the shafts were angled. | |
| Effect | : | This joint solved the issue of vibration, which was a big problem for front engine front wheel drive vehicles. |

| Features | : | The double offset joint (DOJ) was a constant-velocity universal joint originally devised by GKN. A prototype for a new joint was jointly developed by Fuji Heavy Industries, Ltd. and NTN (then Toyo Bearing Mfg. Co., Ltd.), as a world first. The expandable constant-velocity universal joint greatly contributed to the development of front engine front wheel drive vehicles in the world. | |
