| Lowering combustion temperature is effective to reduce NOx that is generated in large amounts under high temperatures. The EGR system recirculates part of the gas emitted from the engine to the cylinders. To solve the resulting issue relating to air inside the combustion chamber, the combined EGR system (Fig. 1) was employed. The system combines internal EGR (pulse EGR) that does not discharge heat to the coolant and cool EGR that uses a newly developed EGR cooler with world-leading excellent temperature efficiency. Accordingly, dramatic NOx reduction was achieved. |

| Points of interest, topicality | : | The engine and exhaust systems of the Hino Profia conform to the 2005 emissions regulations and are designed to prevent sparking in the exhaust gas and are manufactured to meet specifications at the time of delivery from the plant. Therefore, if Hino's genuine parts are used and maintained as specified after operation, sparking will not occur in exhaust gas. It is unnecessary to provide a spark arrester even when working in areas where hazardous material is being handled. | |
| Features | : | Further NOx reduction was achieved by the combination of a proven electronically controlled pulse EGR and high efficiency cool EGR. The system was used for the Hino Profia as the world's first such low-emissions system. | |
